The WIC Program Assistant works as part of a front-desk team in a very busy office. Responsibilities include answering telephones, scheduling appointments, screening participants for eligibility, data entry, issuing benefits, and managing client flow. This role involves following all protocols and regulations for processing applicants/participants for (re)certification, including verifying identity, income, residency, and participant category. The assistant will educate participants on their rights and responsibilities, authorized signatures and shoppers, WIC foods, and using benefits at authorized vendors. They will also refer participants to MassHealth, SNAP, TAFDC, and other health and human service programs, and provide notifications for end of certification, missed benefits, and/or ineligibility. Additionally, the role oversees benefit issuance for prescribed food prescriptions, including reissuing food/formula prescription benefits, capturing participant authorized signatures, and maintaining the security of WIC cards. Routine office duties such as answering telephones, scheduling appointments, data entry, and managing client flow are also key responsibilities. The position requires attending bi-weekly staff meetings and other trainings, conferences, and workshops as appropriate, and performing other duties as needed, including quality assurance activities.
