About The Position

Hood College is seeking a full-time (12-month), non-tenure track Professor of Practice and Clinic Director under the general direction of the Counseling Department Chair and the Dean of the School of Behavioral and Health Sciences, to start January 2027. The Professor of Practice will serve as director of the Counseling program’s NeighborHOOD Counseling and Training Center (NCTC) clinic and will teach a reduced courseload.

Requirements

3-5 years of clinical counseling experience
Licensed or license-eligible as a professional counselor in the state of Maryland
1 year of teaching experience in counselor education
1 year of clinical supervision experience (individual and/or group).
Board-Approved Supervisor in MD or eligibility/willingness to apply for this status
Master's degree in counseling or related field
Advanced coursework/training in clinical supervision
Knowledge of CACREP accreditation and Maryland licensure requirements
Experience with electronic health record systems
Strong organizational skills
Proven ability to work collaboratively with partners across campus in support of Hood College’s mission as a student-centered, liberal arts institution.
Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), e-mail and Internet.
Ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications, including electronic health record systems.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Proficient with statistical and financial concepts.
Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goal setting, and interpreting reports.
Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make cost effective decisions regarding programs.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans.
Ability to work in the theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

Earned doctorate (or significant doctoral coursework completed) in counselor education and supervision from a CACREP-accredited program
Candidates with master’s degrees in counseling or related fields may also be considered.
Experience teaching counselor education courses as instructor of record
At least five years of clinical experience that includes clinical supervision.
Earned doctorate or doctoral coursework in counselor education (CACREP-accredited program)
Board-Approved Supervisor (MD) and/or Approved Clinical Supervisor (NBCC)
3 years clinical supervision experience
Previous experience teaching counselor education courses as instructor of record
Clinical specialization and/or significant experience in college counseling, couple and family counseling, group counseling and/or clinical assessment
Specific experience with the TherapyNotes platform

Responsibilities

Oversee the daily operations of the clinic, including: Client screening and assignments, Management of the clinic’s physical spaces, Room and meeting scheduling, Emergency coverage during clinic operating hours
Provide clinical supervision to NCTC counseling trainees 8-10 hours per week of individual or triadic clinical supervision
Handle student issues, case consultation, and documentation
Facilitate regular clinic orientations and staff meetings
Supervise a graduate assistant and any external doctoral interns (depending on qualifications to do so)
Oversee outreach events on campus and in the community
Liaise with campus and community partners
Develop and maintain community partnerships for NCTC counseling trainees
Teach 1-2 courses per term (12 credits per year) in the M.S. in Counseling program
Plan courses, write syllabi, and design assignments for each course to meet Hood College and departmental/CACREP curriculum requirements and assessment needs, utilizing a variety of teaching techniques
Present lectures and supervise class activities on topics appropriate to the course material
Instruct students in course content and provide learning opportunities in and out of the classroom to achieve course objectives
Critique performance on various assignments to measure the quality of learning, to facilitate skill building, to challenge students’ assumptions, and to reinforce concepts, which must include practical application of new skills
Maintain weekly office hours, be available before and after class, and be in contact with students as appropriate
Work with the student to address problems and resolve issues
Utilize digital and electronic platforms such as Blackboard and Anthology in instruction, record-keeping, and data collection
Provide mental health education and outreach on campus (e.g., new student orientation, wellness fairs)
Attend all department meetings and provide service to the department as needed (e.g., management of registration for the National Counselor Examination; service on search committees)
May serve on relevant college-wide committees
Provide specialized advising to groups of advanced students related to certification and licensure
