About The Position

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Alumni Network is seeking a part-time consultant to facilitate professional development activities and the mentorship program for the Network. This role supports the Alumni Support Working Group and reports to the DOE Alumni Network Community Lead. The consultant will focus on professional development resources, events, and programs tailored to the needs and interests of the Network members. The position is remote, with potential for occasional travel for organizational meetings or alumni events.

Requirements

  • Must have worked at the U.S. Department of Energy (fellow, contractor, or federal employee) for at least two years.
  • Five or more years of combined experience with professional development content.
  • Five or more years of combined experience with building and managing communities and volunteers.
  • Ability to work on teams and collaborate on event and content development.
  • Innovative thinker, able to develop solutions to evolving needs.
  • Flexibility to address new requests and tasks as they arise.

  • Additional experience beyond the minimum requirements.
  • Strong preference for someone already engaged with the DOE Alumni Network, demonstrating commitment and familiarity with its work.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and execute on the DOE Alumni Network’s Alumni Support efforts.
  • Support the alumni community in professional development, focusing on career training and transition assistance for recent departures from the agency.
  • Collaborate with the Community Lead, Executive Director, senior staff, and working group leads to support the Network's community support initiatives.
  • Engage with the Alumni Support working group to coordinate efforts for mutual professional development and career transition support among alumni.
  • Oversee the Network’s mentorship program, including volunteer recruitment, engagement, check-ins, program activities, and celebration events.
  • Plan and execute the second round of the mentorship program, incorporating lessons learned and feedback.
  • Coordinate at least one online or in-person career support event per month for job-seeking and career-transitioning alumni.
  • Develop event ideas based on community needs, coordinate event volunteers, develop content, and recruit speakers.
  • Market events to Network members to maximize attendance.
  • Follow up on events, including metric tracking, SOP refinement, and collecting materials for future use.
  • Maintain and expand resources for job seekers with support from the Community Lead.
  • Contribute content to the weekly newsletter regarding career support resources and events.
