Product Manager, Platform

Menlo•Palo Alto, CA

About The Position

Menlo Research is an Applied R&D lab building Asimov, an open-source humanoid robot platform, and the software stack that powers it. The Menlo Platform enables developers to put agents to work in a humanoid body. It includes a robot and session control plane, real-time video and audio, skill calls, Python SDKs, a browser-based digital twin, and an Agent Platform for packaging, permissions, and deployment across cloud and on-prem environments. The Product Manager will own the Menlo Platform end to end, from developer onboarding through safe agent deployment to robot fleets. This is a hands-on, technically oriented product role responsible for setting the roadmap, working closely with engineers on architecture and API design, speaking with users regularly, writing technical specifications, running the SDK, and spending time with the robot. The role collaborates with Brain, Hardware, and Deployment teams to expose capabilities, address field feedback, and shape platform features.

Requirements

  • Experience shipping developer-facing technical products such as platforms, APIs, SDKs, or cloud infrastructure used by engineers.
  • A technical foundation, ideally a computer science or engineering degree or experience as a software engineer.
  • Ability to read Python, run a script against an API, and debug a quickstart.
  • Ability to contribute to architecture reviews involving APIs, authentication, real-time streaming, and cloud-versus-edge decisions.
  • Ability to write clear technical specifications with requirements, edge cases, and success criteria.
  • Ability to make decisions with incomplete information and explain the reasoning clearly.
  • Regularly engage with users and distinguish their requests from their underlying needs.
  • Use AI as a collaborator in day-to-day work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in robotics, autonomy, IoT, or other products combining software and physical hardware.
  • Familiarity with ROS 2, robot simulation, or real-time control systems.
  • Experience with AI agent frameworks, LLM tooling, or ML platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with WebRTC or real-time media infrastructure such as LiveKit.
  • Experience with fleet or device management, OTA updates, or on-prem enterprise deployments.
  • Experience building open-source products and working with developer communities.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Menlo Platform end to end, turning developer and customer feedback into shipped features.
  • Set and defend the roadmap across the console, SDKs, Digital Asimov, robot control plane, and Agent Platform.
  • Define API and SDK surfaces with engineering, including resource models, authentication and API keys, versioning, and backward compatibility.
  • Shape how agents are packaged, permissioned, validated, and deployed to hardware, including safety envelopes, rollbacks, and fleet observability.
  • Resolve product tradeoffs involving real-time robotics, latency, connectivity, session lifecycle, and cloud-versus-robot execution.
  • Define the developer experience from installation to first deployment and improve time to first robot movement.
  • Work with Brain and Hardware to expose capabilities as skills developers and agents can call.
  • Work with Deployment to turn enterprise field feedback into platform features.
  • Speak with users every week, including open-source builders, researchers, and enterprise fleet teams.
  • Define and instrument platform metrics such as activation, session reliability, and deployment success, and use them to guide product decisions.
