Product Manager, Platform

Menlo•Palo Alto, CA

About The Position

Menlo Research is an Applied R&D lab building Asimov, an open-source humanoid robot platform, and its software stack. The Product Manager will own the Menlo Platform end to end, from developer onboarding through safe deployment of agents to robot fleets. The platform includes a robot and session control plane, real-time video and audio, skill calls, Python SDKs, a browser-based digital twin, and an Agent Platform for packaging, permissioning, and deploying agents across cloud and on-prem environments. This is a technical, hands-on product role. The Product Manager will set and defend the roadmap, work closely with engineers on architecture and API design, write technical specifications, use the SDK, spend time with robots, and speak regularly with users. The role spans developer experience, real-time robotics tradeoffs, safety, fleet observability, and platform metrics.

Requirements

  • Experience shipping developer-facing technical products such as platforms, APIs, SDKs, or cloud infrastructure.
  • A strong technical foundation, ideally a computer science or engineering degree or prior experience as a software engineer.
  • Ability to read Python, run a script against an API, and debug a quickstart.
  • Ability to participate effectively in architecture reviews covering APIs, authentication, real-time streaming, and cloud-versus-edge decisions.
  • Ability to write clear technical specifications with requirements, edge cases, and success criteria.
  • Ability to make decisions with incomplete information and explain the reasoning clearly enough to gain team commitment.
  • A user-focused approach and ability to distinguish what users request from what they need.
  • Uses AI as a collaborator in day-to-day work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in robotics, autonomy, IoT, or other products combining software and physical hardware.
  • Familiarity with ROS 2, robot simulation, or real-time control systems.
  • Experience with AI agent frameworks, LLM tooling, or ML platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with WebRTC or real-time media infrastructure such as LiveKit.
  • Experience with fleet or device management, OTA updates, or on-prem enterprise deployments.
  • Experience building open-source products and working with developer communities.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Menlo Platform end to end, turning developer and customer feedback into shipped features.
  • Set and defend the roadmap across the console, SDKs, Digital Asimov, the robot control plane, and the Agent Platform.
  • Define API and SDK surfaces with engineering, including resource models, authentication and API keys, versioning, and backward compatibility.
  • Shape how agents are packaged, permissioned, validated, and deployed to hardware, including safety envelopes, rollbacks, and fleet observability.
  • Work through real-time robotics tradeoffs involving latency, connectivity, session lifecycle, and which functions run on robots versus in the cloud.
  • Define the developer experience from installation through first deployment, with a focus on time to first robot movement.
  • Work with Brain and Hardware teams to expose capabilities as callable skills, and with Deployment to turn enterprise field feedback into platform features.
  • Speak with users weekly, including open-source builders, researchers, and enterprise teams operating fleets.
  • Define and instrument platform metrics such as activation, session reliability, and deployment success, and use them to guide product decisions.
