Product Management Apprentice

Liminal•Boston, MA

About The Position

This role is for a Product Management Apprentice at Liminal, a Founders' Studio that co-builds with repeat founders, providing build expertise, capital, and access from founding to Series B. The apprentice will work across ventures from their earliest moments, turning a founder's conviction into a usable, valuable, and reliable product. The role requires fluency in understanding user needs versus stated needs, technical feasibility versus promises, and business sustainability versus founder dreams.

Requirements

  • Structured thinking to decompose ill-defined problems into testable hypotheses and clear next steps, comfortable with ambiguity, no existing product, no usage data, and a founder with a world-changing obsession.
  • Strong analytical skills to model trade-offs and interrogate data, distinguishing meaningful metrics from vanity numbers.
  • User empathy to triangulate between what people say, what they do, and what they need.
  • Sharp communication skills, capable of creating concise one-pagers and explaining trade-offs effectively to founders, engineers, and investors.
  • A contrarian streak and independent thinking, unafraid of unpopular positions and open to disagreeing and committing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience gained through an unusual path into Product Management (e.g., ER nurse, PhD dropout, failed founder) with a compelling story to tell.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct deep market research, user interviews, competitive analysis, and technology landscape mapping to surface non-obvious insights and reframe problem spaces.
  • Collaborate with founders to shape product vision, features, value propositions, and roadmaps, translating sprawling ideas into scoped, sequenced plans with clear trade-offs.
  • Prototype, test, and iterate on products, running experiments with real users and making data-driven decisions to kill ideas when necessary, using surgical diplomacy.
  • Coordinate with engineering and design to scope, build, and ship Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), owning the connective tissue between vision and execution.
  • Actively explore and apply AI tools to enhance product development processes, including research synthesis, prototyping, and user testing.

Benefits

  • Meaningful stipend
  • Embedded in core projects
  • Shipping real products for real ventures
  • Learning product management by doing it at the zero-to-one stage
