Product Lead

Balanced Body Inc•Sacramento, CA
•$100,000 - $130,000

About The Position

Balanced Body is seeking a Product Lead to own product strategy across its product lines. This is a strategic ownership role responsible for setting the product roadmap, deciding which products to retain, discontinue, or refresh, and defining positioning, pricing, and features for new and existing products. The Product Lead will work as a peer to the Program Manager (Manufacturing). The Product Lead defines product direction and requirements, while the Program Manager owns execution, scheduling, and cross-functional delivery. The role does not manage or direct the Program Manager’s day-to-day work. The position will lead several new product initiatives in development across hard goods and soft goods, and establish a formal, repeatable innovation cycle for sourcing, evaluating, and prioritizing new product ideas. The role requires hands-on experience with discrete manufactured products, including materials, bills of materials, tooling, suppliers and factories, production feasibility, cost, and lead times. Product experience limited to software, SaaS, apps, or other digital products does not meet this requirement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Design, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with discrete manufactured products, working directly with engineering, suppliers, and production on materials, bills of materials, tooling, cost, and lead times from concept through manufacturing.
  • At least 5 years of experience in product management or product strategy for physical or consumer product lines; the posting notes that this years threshold is a placeholder and should be confirmed before posting.
  • Demonstrated experience owning a product roadmap and making portfolio decisions to add, cut, or reposition products for a physical product line.
  • Experience with pricing strategy and feature and positioning decisions for consumer products.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, including the ability to partner with a peer-level Program Manager without direct authority over their execution.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present and defend roadmap and pricing decisions to leadership.
  • Product experience limited to software, SaaS, apps, or other digital products does not meet the required manufacturing experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or improving a structured product development or innovation process.

  • Define product direction and requirements in partnership with the Program Manager (Manufacturing), who owns execution, scheduling, and cross-functional delivery.

  • Use customer feedback, market research, and competitive analysis to inform roadmap, pricing, and positioning decisions.
  • Partner with engineering, suppliers, and manufacturing early in concept development to validate feasibility, materials, tooling, cost, and production constraints.
