Product Lead

Balanced Body•Sacramento, CA
•$100,000 - $130,000

About The Position

Balanced Body is seeking a Product Lead to own product strategy across its Pilates equipment and education product lines. The role sets the product roadmap, makes portfolio decisions about which products to retain, discontinue, or refresh, and defines positioning, pricing, and features for new and existing products. It is a strategic ownership role focused on deciding what should be built and why, rather than managing execution. The Product Lead partners as a peer with the Program Manager (Manufacturing). The Product Lead defines product direction and requirements, while the Program Manager independently owns execution, scheduling, and cross-functional delivery. The role leads new product initiatives from concept through definition, including projects in hard goods and soft goods, and establishes a formal, repeatable innovation cycle for sourcing, evaluating, and prioritizing product ideas. The position requires hands-on experience with discrete, manufactured products. The successful candidate will use knowledge of materials, bills of materials, tooling, supplier and factory relationships, production feasibility, cost, and lead times to inform roadmap and pricing decisions. Product experience limited to software, SaaS, apps, or other digital products does not meet this requirement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Design, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with discrete, manufactured products, working directly with engineering, suppliers, and production on materials, bills of materials, tooling, cost, and lead times from concept through manufacturing.
  • Five or more years of experience in product management or product strategy for physical or consumer product lines; the posting notes that this years threshold is a placeholder to confirm before posting.
  • Demonstrated experience owning a product roadmap and making add, cut, or reposition portfolio decisions for a physical product line.
  • Experience with pricing strategy and feature and positioning decisions for consumer products.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, including comfort partnering with a peer-level Program Manager without direct authority over their execution.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present and defend roadmap and pricing decisions to leadership.
  • Product experience limited to software, SaaS, apps, or other digital products does not meet the hands-on manufacturing experience requirement.
