Product Engineer

Cosmo CabinetsAtlanta, GA
Onsite

About The Position

The Product Engineer will own the existing Klovo product line, focusing on improving and expanding it, and ensuring the Atlanta factory executes to specification. This role involves managing component specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering drawings, and changes to the proprietary GlideLock connector system. The engineer will also manage the relationship with the Atlanta manufacturing facility to ensure production matches design intent. Additionally, this role is responsible for the engineering side of the product roadmap, including new SKU configurations, new cabinet types, value engineering to meet cost targets, and fulfilling retail channel requirements for compliance and submission. The product is already on the market and selling, making this a role focused on enhancement and growth rather than concept development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Product Design, or a related technical field
  • 3+ years of product engineering experience in a furniture, storage, cabinetry, or consumer hard goods environment — ideally with wood-based panel products (TFL, melamine, MDF, or plywood)
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or comparable 3D CAD; able to produce production-ready part drawings and flat-pack packaging layouts
  • Hands-on understanding of panel product construction: edge banding methods and quality standards, hinge and drawer slide selection, and flat-pack engineering for consumer RTA assembly
  • Strong Excel skills: BOM management, cost modeling, and landed-cost tracking
  • Experience managing a contract manufacturer or outsourced factory — able to write a clear production spec, conduct a floor audit, and drive corrective action
  • Organized and self-directed: able to manage multiple SKUs, an active engineering change log, and retailer deadlines simultaneously without a large team behind you

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with garage or closet storage products
  • Familiarity with mechanical connector or fastener systems used in RTA furniture (cam locks, dowels, snap-fit, or similar)
  • Experience working on a big-box retailer's product submission and compliance process (Home Depot, Lowe's, Costco, or similar)
  • Knowledge of CARB/TSCA compliance for composite wood products
  • Experience with UPC/GTIN setup and retail item setup processes

Responsibilities

  • Own all engineering drawings, part specifications, and 3D models for the Klovo cabinet line — TFL laminate panels, PVC edgebanding, GlideLock connectors, hinges, drawer slides, and packaging components
  • Maintain and update the full BOM library for every SKU in the 2–16 ft product range; ensure accuracy across all configurations (tall lockers, base cabinets, wall cabinets, worktops, drawer towers)
  • Lead engineering changes from initiation through production release: document the change, assess impact on existing BOMs and packaging, coordinate with the Atlanta facility, and validate the first article
  • Expand the SKU line: design new configurations, accessory SKUs, and cabinet types to meet retailer requirements and consumer demand — while maintaining GlideLock system compatibility
  • Own the GlideLock connector system technically: monitor field performance, drive design improvements, and validate any changes through structural testing before release
  • Serve as the day-to-day technical interface with the Atlanta manufacturing facility: translate design intent into clear production specifications and hold the factory to them
  • Conduct regular production reviews at the Atlanta facility: inspect finished cabinets against spec, review in-process quality data, and track defect rates by SKU
  • Lead root cause analysis on any production quality escapes — edgebanding failures, connector fitment issues, panel dimensional variation — and own corrective action through closure
  • Manage engineering change implementation at the factory: sequence changes to minimize disruption, validate that new components are built to spec before full-production release
  • Engineer and maintain flat-pack packaging for each SKU: panel nesting layouts, damage protection, master carton specs, and labeled assembly sequencing — all designed to meet retailer pack-out requirements
  • Write and maintain consumer assembly instructions for all configurations; validate with test assemblers before retailer submission
  • Manage product submissions to retail partners: samples, spec sheets, compliance documentation, UPC/GTIN setup, and planogram data — on the retailer's timeline
  • Track and respond to retailer product feedback through the approval and review process; own corrective actions on any product or packaging findings
  • Build and maintain Excel-based cost models for every SKU; track landed cost against target retail margins and flag variances
  • Drive value engineering: identify material substitutions, component consolidations, or spec changes that reduce unit cost without compromising the Klovo quality standard
  • Develop capital justifications for tooling, fixtures, or equipment changes at the Atlanta facility when required; present ROI analysis to management

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Relocation assistance is considered for out-of-area candidates
