About The Position

Accredo Packaging is seeking an experienced Product Development Engineer to serve as a technical leader and customer-facing resource. The role bridges customer needs and manufacturing capabilities, supporting business growth through product development and providing end-to-end technical expertise across production, converting, packaging-line runnability, distribution, consumer use, and end-of-life performance. The engineer will develop and commercialize high-performance polyolefin and polyethylene-based film structures for food and consumer packaged goods applications. Products include flexible barrier packaging films, laminated roll stock, shrink bundling and overwrap films, wicketed bags and other specialty formats, breathable films, and packaging-label substrates. The position is based onsite in Sugar Land, Texas, with no remote or hybrid option. Relocation assistance is available. Travel of up to 20% is expected for customer visits, trials, and industry events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science, Plastics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Packaging Science, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 8 years of progressive product development experience in the flexible packaging industry, specifically focused on polyolefin or PE-based blown-film extrusion.
  • Deep working knowledge of blown-film extrusion processing, PE resins (LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, mLLDPE, and EVA), functional additives, and polymer characterization.
  • Strong understanding of film conversion processes, including printing, laminating, and pouching, and high-speed packaging equipment dynamics, including Form-Fill-Seal.
  • Proven experience managing technical relationships with external customers, presenting data, and navigating technical commercialization projects.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple complex technical projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% for customer visits, trials, and industry events.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with sustainable packaging trends, circular-economy goals, recyclable film structures, and bio-based or recycled-content resins.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical interface for assigned customer accounts and market segments, leading technical meetings, discovery sessions, and joint development programs.
  • Translate customer application requirements and market trends into technical specifications for blown-film packaging structures.
  • Manage product development projects from concept and lab-scale testing through commercial launch, meeting timelines and performance gates.
  • Work with raw-material vendors to evaluate, select, and optimize materials for cost, processability, and functional performance.
  • Design and engineer monolayer and multilayer blown-film structures for barrier properties, seal strength, puncture resistance, optics, and shelf-life extension.
  • Lead sustainable packaging initiatives, including recyclable mono-material structures, PCR resin integration, and downgauging or lightweighting.
  • Plan and oversee internal plant development trials on blown-film lines to validate processing parameters and physical-property metrics.
  • Coordinate and attend customer plant trials, troubleshooting film runnability on converting, printing, and Form-Fill-Seal equipment.
  • Analyze trial data and provide technical reports and recommendations to internal leadership and external clients.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Regulatory teams to ensure formulations are commercially viable, compliant, and scalable.
  • Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for technical issues or customer complaints related to product performance.
