About The Position

As a Product Designer at Numeral, you are accountable for outcomes, not artifacts. You work with PMs, engineers, and other designers to define problems in complex tax domains—including sales tax, VAT, GST, filings, and registrations—and ship product experiences that change how finance and accounting teams operate. Design at Numeral is AI-first and builder-led. Work begins in an LLM, moves into tools such as Claude Code and Cursor to explore flows and interactions, and then into Figma for systems and polish. Designers prototype early, test with real customers, and stay involved through launch and adoption. The role involves owning product work end to end, using AI to clarify ambiguous workflows and identify edge cases, conducting self-serve customer research, prototyping with AI tools, and translating validated concepts into production-ready designs. Designers simplify complex tax experiences by using Numeral’s internal tax engine, Minerva, to handle complexity while keeping the default experience straightforward. They also contribute to shared design patterns and team practices.

Requirements

  • Experience as a product designer on complex products, ideally in B2B, fintech, accounting, or another systems-heavy environment.
  • Experience owning projects from problem definition through launch and iteration.
  • Active use of LLMs such as Claude or ChatGPT in a design workflow.
  • Comfort using Cursor or Claude Code, even without writing production code by hand.
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong product thinking, interaction design, and craft on dense, data-heavy surfaces.
  • Ability to work with PMs to define success metrics and adjust based on results.
  • Clear communication and comfort collaborating directly with engineers, PMs, and customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience planning and conducting customer interviews or usability tests with finance, accounting, or operations users.
  • Familiarity with design systems and extending shared components.
  • Comfort with front-end concepts such as components, states, and conditional logic.

Responsibilities

  • Own product work end to end with PMs and engineers: define problems, explore solutions, validate concepts, ship improvements tied to key metrics, and participate in launch and iteration.
  • Use an LLM such as Claude to clarify ambiguous tax workflows, draft short PRDs, identify edge cases, and align with the team.
  • Conduct direct customer research with controllers, AP leads, and founders, including quick tests of concepts.
  • Use Cursor and Claude Code to prototype and iterate on flows against real product surfaces, then partner with engineers on what should move into the product.
  • Translate validated concepts into Figma designs with complete state coverage, system alignment, and production readiness, including tax-specific edge cases.
  • Simplify tax workflows for most customers while accounting for underlying complexity and the capabilities of Minerva, Numeral’s internal tax engine.
  • Share prompts, patterns, and learnings, and participate in critiques and reviews that raise the team’s craft.
