The role spans the full design process, from early exploration through production. Requirements

  • A portfolio demonstrating strong visual and interaction design.
  • Experience designing complex, technical, or developer-focused products.
  • Ability to take an ambiguous problem, understand customer needs, explore multiple approaches, and drive toward a strong solution.
  • Deep attention to typography, layout, hierarchy, interaction, and systems.
  • Experience working directly with engineers and customers without layers of process in between.
  • A fast, prototype-early working style that uses learning to iterate.
  • Ability to think beyond individual features and improve product-wide patterns and systems.
  • Comfort with technical tools such as Git and VS Code, and interest in working directly in React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
  • Strong product and design judgment, including the ability to explain what works, what could improve, and when work is ready to ship.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product design end to end, including research, product definition, prototypes, design reviews, specifications, and final implementation.
  • Work directly with engineering and product teams to frame problems, explore solutions, and ship quickly.
  • Collaborate with customers to understand workflows, validate ideas, and test prototypes.
  • Improve visual and interaction quality across the Baseten product.
  • Design interactions and details that make complex technical workflows clear, fast, and polished.
  • Evolve the design system and establish patterns that scale across the product.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product consistency, usability, and overall quality.
  • Work with engineers in code to polish the UI and ensure the shipped experience matches the design.
  • Help shape the design team's practices and raise the product-quality bar across the company.

Benefits
