Product Designer, AI Native

Urban Ridge Supplies•New York, NY

About The Position

Citizen is hiring a senior product designer to lead its consumer mobile experience and own its revenue product as the company rebuilds as an AI-native organization. The role reports directly to the Founder and CEO, who designs alongside the hire, with no product manager between the designer and the subscription business. The designer will shape experiences for Citizen’s live safety network, used by millions, and help invent new live, AI-generated, ambient, and personal safety experiences. The role spans the full consumer mobile experience, iOS first with Android close behind; the revenue product, including subscriptions and experiments; Citizen’s design system across product, brand, and live broadcast; high-fidelity prototyping and validation; and the AI-agent workflows that handle production work. The designer will make product and shipping decisions, decide where human oversight is needed, and collaborate daily with the CEO and closely with engineering, Marketing, Real-Time Operations, and agents. The position also includes helping shape the design team as it grows. The first 90 days focus on learning the product and operations in New York, auditing flows, and shipping a visible improvement; setting the design agenda and taking over revenue tests; then shipping a category-defining experience and establishing a twelve-month design roadmap. The posting offers a base salary of $155,000–$215,000 per year plus meaningful equity.

Requirements

  • Roughly a decade of experience designing and shipping end-to-end consumer mobile products used by millions of people.
  • Demonstrated product design taste and discernment, including the ability to select strong options from many generated variants and explain the rationale.
  • Experience making something that did not exist before, such as a new interaction, category, or product.
  • High agency and ability to make decisions, ship work, improve a given direction, and build tools when needed.
  • Experience building with AI and replacing parts of personal workflows with agents; informed opinions about the tools’ capabilities and limitations.
  • Ability to think in design systems across type, color, motion, sound, and the needs of teams and agents.
  • Experience owning a business outcome, not only a design surface.
  • Experience running a paywall, pricing, or onboarding test end to end, interpreting results, and shipping or stopping based on the data.
  • Comfort taking on product-management responsibilities when there is no product manager.
  • Fluency in video and motion design.
  • Ability to prototype quickly in high fidelity on a real device and enough coding comfort to get ideas onto a phone without waiting for an engineer.
  • Ability to lead by example and help a small team do its best work.
  • Care for the safety mission and ability to design with its real-world consequences in mind.
  • Confidence making decisions with incomplete information, receiving direct feedback from a strong-opinioned founder, and giving feedback in return.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Citizen’s consumer mobile experience across onboarding, the map, incident experience, live video, alerts, and Premium, with iOS first and Android close behind.
  • Create new live, AI-generated, ambient, and personal safety experiences.
  • Own the consumer revenue product, including paywalls, plan mix, trials, upgrade paths, payment at onboarding, roadmap, experiments, and ship decisions.
  • Run revenue tests end to end and decide what goes live based on results.
  • Own and evolve the design system across product, brand, and the live broadcast studio, including typography, color, motion, sound, and iconography.
  • Build the design system so agents can reliably produce work from it.
  • Create high-fidelity prototypes rapidly using tools such as Figma, Origami, SwiftUI, or code, and get ideas onto real devices quickly.
  • Validate designs through usability sessions, funnel data, and live experiments.
  • Design, run, and improve agent workflows for production tasks such as asset generation and prototyping, deciding where human oversight remains necessary.
  • Partner daily with the Founder and CEO on product direction and work closely with iOS and Android engineering, Marketing, Real-Time Operations, and agents.
  • Ship a visible product improvement during the first 30 days, take over a live revenue test during days 31–60, and ship a category-defining experience within the first 90 days.
  • Set a twelve-month design roadmap and help shape the design team as it grows.

Benefits

  • Meaningful equity.
