About The Position

The Produce Clerk sorts, displays, removes, and replenishes fresh fruits and vegetables in the produce department. The role maintains the department’s overall environment by assisting Members with product knowledge and customer service, and ensures produce meets or exceeds company quality standards.

The position also supports BJ’s club standards by maintaining a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment; following club policies and procedures; working collaboratively; and providing friendly service. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age.

• Frequently lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds; may need to lift and move heavy or awkward objects over 50 pounds with assistance.
• Frequently move around on hard surfaces and position oneself to examine or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping.

Responsibilities

• Assist Members in the produce department by answering questions, recommending products and safe handling tips, and helping Members find products throughout the club.
• Inspect, rotate, and store produce upon delivery, ensuring received items meet or exceed company produce standards.
• Rotate produce on the sales floor to maintain freshness and variety; keep cases and displays stocked, neat, and clean; and remove items no longer suitable for sale.
• Maintain the produce reserve stock area by dating and rotating back stock and organizing and condensing the storage area daily.
• Follow established guidelines for disposing of damaged, spoiled, or expired products.
• Assist the Fresh Manager with inventory and order processing as needed.
• Clean and sanitize produce equipment, display fixtures, and areas, including the produce cooler and refrigerated display cases.
• Generate signage for produce goods and perform price checks when necessary; ensure items are accurately priced and signed.
• Maintain club policies and procedures and perform other assigned duties, including working in other departments as needed.
• Work collaboratively to maintain club standards, a safe and positive environment, and a clean, organized department.
• Maintain regular, predictable, full attendance.
