About The Position

As a member of the C&S Wholesale Grocers family of companies, SpartanNash is a food solutions company that distributes grocery and household goods and operates grocery stores, pharmacies, and fuel centers. The Produce Associate maintains and operates the produce department, preparing and merchandising products according to company and department standards and helping ensure the shift contributes to the store’s financial interests. The role may also include assignments in other departments based on customer experience needs, as well as other duties assigned in a timely manner.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred.
One year of retail or related experience preferred.
Must be able to work with fresh fruits and vegetables without negative allergic consequences that adversely affect the ability to perform the job.
Ability to read, write, comprehend, and interpret documents.
Basic mathematical skills.
Detail-oriented.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including frequently lifting and/or moving up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, and standing and walking for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Cut, slice, and prepare produce as directed, following procedures for culling, trimming, and storing products.
Weigh, package, and label products.
Handle spoiled or damaged products according to established guidelines.
Fill, rotate, and merchandise produce and floral shelves, cases, and displays.
Assist with unloading deliveries and stacking products in coolers.
Notify the Manager when products or supplies need to be ordered.
Use suggestive selling techniques with customers.
Maintain familiarity with department products, including differences in price, taste, preparation, and use.
Keep departments clean, attractive, and well stocked.
Follow PPE and safety guidelines, food safety and cleaning expectations, and guest experience guidelines.
Perform tasks in other departments based on customer experience needs.
Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
