About The Position

Serves in a lead capacity over Process Officers who serve subpoenas, summons, and related official court instruments issued for the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee. Reports to the IV-D supervisor and manager of the Process Office.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of field experience in a law enforcement capacity; AND Two (2) years of college study (60 semester hours or 72 quarters) from an accredited college of university, preferably in criminal justice, psychology, sociology or a related field; OR An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND / OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
  • Ability to perform and supervise all duties and responsibilities of Process Officers.
  • Thorough knowledge of established policies and procedures regarding the supervision of employees.
  • Ability to train and supervise all assigned personnel.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, while having the ability to develop, build and lead an effective team.
  • Must have excellent communication and writing skills to ensure reports are written detailed; accurate and legible.
  • Must successfully pass firearms qualifications requirements.
  • Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet Shelby County Government requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
  • Must successfully pass a physical examination.
  • Must pass a psychological examination.
  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license or secure one by date of employment.
  • Must have a Tennessee Enhanced Handgun Permit or be able to successfully obtain the permit upon employment.
  • Subject to a background check for any convictions that have substantial relationship to potential job duties.
  • Must be a resident of Shelby County and shall continue to reside in the County as a condition of their employment (with specific exemptions listed).

Responsibilities

  • Assists in leading and training Process Officer personnel.
  • Monitors work assignments and productivity of Process Officers and assigned staff.
  • Informs staff of policy changes related to Juvenile Court and the management team.
  • Assigns Process Officers to various sections.
  • Assists in processing the proper documentation; evaluation and discipline of personnel when required.
  • Serves all papers, such as summons and subpoenas; issued by Juvenile Court.
  • Prepares daily, monthly and annual reports of all activities as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.
