Freelance Pro Tools Designer
About The Position
FOX News Media is seeking a Freelance Pro Tools Designer in New York, NY to support the audio needs of Fox Business Network, Fox News Channel, Fox Nation, and Fox Weather, including editorial staff and the graphics department. This is a fill-in position covering vacations and sick leave. The role requires working efficiently in a fast-paced news environment and multitasking. Applicants must submit a sound design reel or portfolio links for consideration. The designer supports sound design, music selection, Pro Tools editing and mixing, music requests and sourcing, and sound effects for animations and other show content. The role also maintains music libraries, coordinates music use and reporting, supports control-room audio operations and associated systems, and helps production staff and editors with music and sound design. The position enforces the FCC’s CALM Act and monitors commercial volume using LKFS metering. A flexible schedule and potential unscheduled overtime may be required for breaking news or other production needs. The stated pay rate is $55.00–$70.00 per hour in high-cost labor markets such as New York City and Los Angeles, and $45.75–$58.25 per hour in other U.S. locations. Final offer amount depends on education, skills, experience, and location.
Requirements
- Ability to work quickly within Pro Tools.
- Knowledge of SoundMouse.
- Proficiency with both Mac and PC.
- Strong teamwork skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including last-minute availability and potential unscheduled overtime as dictated by breaking news or other production needs.

Responsibilities
- Support the graphics department with sound design, music selection, and Pro Tools editing and mixing for animations, show material, segments, network IDs, and specials.
- Process popular music requests for show teams.
- Find music for shows and segments.
- Add sound effects to animations.
- Maintain contracted music libraries.
- Consult on and disseminate library music to production staff and the graphics department.
- Interface with control rooms on operations, audio transfer, and maintenance of the DAD ENCO system.
- Track music use for reporting to publishing agencies through SoundMouse, and supervise directors and production staff in creating and submitting cue sheets accurately and on time.
- Understand and maintain associated computer networks used to transfer, play out, and use music.
- Support production staff and editors in using music and sound design in edited pre-tape packages.
- Work with Fox Publishing on music use, reporting, and acquisition issues.
- Enforce the FCC’s CALM Act and monitor commercial volume using LKFS metering.
