About The Position

This internship provides students with hands-on experience in a credit union environment. Interns will represent the credit union professionally, handle financial transactions, provide information on services, and maintain security protocols. The role involves direct member interaction, processing deposits and withdrawals, loan payments, and assisting members with various account-related needs. Additionally, interns will be involved in cross-selling credit union services and performing other assigned duties to support the team and ensure efficient member service.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; or an approved internship.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Represents ECU to the membership in a polite, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Receives and deposits cash, checks, and other monetary instruments.
  • Provides routine information on credit union services or policies.
  • Operates Cash Recycler to process member transactions and maintains proper security control.
  • Strictly adheres to established security procedures, monitoring for potential fraud and counterfeit items.
  • Coordinates time away from teller station to ensure continuous teller presence.
  • Receives checks and cash for deposit, verifies amounts, examines for proper endorsements and negotiability, and enters transactions into the computer system.
  • Receives and processes loan payments, ensuring accuracy and collection of late charges.
  • Provides members with receipts for transactions.
  • Adheres to policies and guidelines, including Regulation D, Regulation CC, and Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Disburses cash and check withdrawals upon proper identification.
  • Cashes checks presented upon proper identification.
  • Provides and assists members with necessary forms.
  • Maintains an appropriate level of supplies for member use.
  • Receives and routes member account information to the proper department.
  • Processes and posts incoming mail transactions.
  • Provides members with account status, current balances, and loan payoffs.
  • Provides members with copies of their statements and assists with statement or checking account problems.
  • Cross-sells other credit union services.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with Supervisor regarding pertinent issues.
  • Cooperates with other department personnel to ensure a team effort and prompt member service.
  • Follows safety and security rules and regulations.
  • Maintains integrity and privacy of system passwords and PINs.
  • Ensures confidentiality of all credit union operations and member information.
  • Maintains the security of the work area and keeps it organized.
  • Maintains current knowledge of credit union philosophy, services, and policies.
  • Maintains a professional and courteous attitude with all people.
  • Protects and respects credit union equipment and supplies.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Adheres to ECU Employee Personnel Policy and Employee Handbook Guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Senior Management.
