Summer Crew Worker ONLY Current High School/College Students
About The Position
This is a temporary crew worker position for the summer season only, part of a program for hiring High School students, lasting approximately 9 weeks within the Public Works Department. The role may involve working in Cemetery Operations, Ground Maintenance, or Building Maintenance branches. In Cemetery Operations, the position assists in managing growth and retaining character by creating a unique and comforting atmosphere for the City of Decatur’s cemetery. This involves maintenance, beautification, and operation of the cemetery through heavy manual tasks and the safe operation of specialized tools and light equipment for burial plot maintenance and gravesite preparation. For Ground Maintenance, the position enhances the City's unique atmosphere by preserving and maintaining the City landscape, assisting in creating an inviting environment through landscaping, beautification, and maintenance of the City's parks, right-of-ways, ball fields, and undeveloped lots, using various hand-operated power tools and landscape maintenance equipment. In Building Maintenance, the position is responsible for clean-up, maintenance, and light repair, performing custodial activities in various City buildings and parks, such as cleaning bathrooms, washing windows, emptying trash cans, sweeping/mopping/vacuuming floors, dusting furniture, and emptying recycling bins. All assignments are given and performed under the direct supervision of a Crew Supervisor.

Responsibilities
- Assist Decatur in managing growth while retaining character by creating a unique and comforting atmosphere for the City of Decatur’s cemetery
- Perform maintenance, beautification, and operation of the City cemetery
- Perform heavy manual tasks

- Perform other work as needed or assigned
