About The Position

The Principal, Technical Program Manager leads complex, large-scale technology programs by defining goals, managing cross-functional dependencies, and driving end-to-end delivery. This role requires expertise in program and risk management, technical design, and stakeholder engagement to ensure scalable, high-quality solutions. The position involves coordinating multiple teams, resolving ambiguities, and implementing process improvements to optimize outcomes. The successful candidate will communicate effectively across various groups, mentor team members, and leverage data-driven insights to guide decision-making, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and operational excellence throughout program lifecycles. The Decision Sciences team at Walmart leads strategic initiatives by delivering reliable data assets and applying scientific rigor to decision-making. They focus on digitizing enterprise domains, building shared data platforms, and ensuring data quality and consistency. Collaborating across functions, the team manages complex programs with expertise in technical design and systems architecture. Emphasizing clear communication, risk management, and continuous improvement, they develop scalable, high-performing solutions that support enterprise-wide goals and enable informed business decisions and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in program and project management, including risk and stakeholder management across complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Proven ability to define goals, stage gates, and critical delivery paths for large-scale technical programs with multiple dependencies.
  • Strong technical expertise in system architecture, software design, cloud infrastructure, and platform capabilities.
  • Skilled in translating product requirements into scalable, high-availability technical solutions and operational excellence frameworks.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication, aligning various stakeholders, and driving consensus in ambiguous situations.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with data-driven decision-making and risk mitigation experience.
  • Ability to mentor teams and implement process improvements to accelerate delivery and enhance quality outcomes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.
  • 8 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Project Management.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, with specialization in strategy, supply chain, finance, information systems, or related area and 4 years’ experience in product design.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

  • Establish and improve standardized workflows, prioritization frameworks, and automation opportunities to enhance program efficiency.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and impacts clearly to stakeholders, fostering alignment and informed decision-making.
  • Mentor team members on best practices in program and technical management.
