About The Position

The Principal, Technical Program Manager leads complex, large-scale technology programs by defining goals, managing cross-functional dependencies, and driving end-to-end delivery. This role requires expertise in program planning, technical design, risk management, and stakeholder engagement to ensure scalable, high-quality solutions. The position involves coordinating multiple teams, resolving ambiguities, and implementing process improvements to optimize outcomes. The successful candidate will communicate effectively across varied groups, mentor team members, and apply analytical problem-solving to deliver impactful results aligned with strategic objectives and operational excellence. The Marketplace Tech team at Walmart designs scalable, innovative solutions supporting a vast retail ecosystem. This multidisciplinary group of engineers, architects, and product leaders collaborates to build robust platforms for fulfillment, logistics, and seller experience. Their work spans global supply chain integration, marketplace growth, and customer-focused delivery and returns solutions. Leveraging advanced technology, data insights, and domain expertise, the team ensures Walmart Marketplace remains agile, reliable, and prepared to expand across new business models and markets, driving operational excellence and sustained growth.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in program and project management, including risk and stakeholder management across complex, multi-area initiatives.
  • Proven ability to define goals, stage gates, and critical delivery paths while managing resource constraints and cross-functional dependencies.
  • Strong technical expertise in system design, cloud infrastructure, software lifecycle, and operational excellence frameworks.
  • Skilled in translating product requirements into technical designs and ensuring scalable, high-availability solutions.
  • Proficient in communication and alignment with vadied stakeholders to drive consensus and resolve ambiguities.
  • Demonstrated analytical problem-solving capabilities using data-driven decision-making and impact analysis.
  • Experience mentoring teams and implementing process improvements to accelerate delivery and enhance quality outcomes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.
  • 8 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Project Management.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, with specialization in strategy, supply chain, finance, information systems, or related area and 4 years’ experience in product design.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Define and manage goals, stage gates, critical delivery paths, and key deliverables for large-scale technical programs with multiple dependencies.
  • Secure commitments for program scopes, delivery dates, and resources while managing cross-functional dependencies.
  • Translate product requirements into technical designs, ensuring scalability, high availability, and performance.
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation plans, and proactively resolve issues to maintain program momentum.
  • Establish and improve scalable workflows, prioritization frameworks, and automation opportunities across initiatives.
  • Communicate progress and risks clearly to stakeholders, aligning teams and driving consensus.
  • Mentor team members on best practices and technical program management methodologies.
