•$142,800 - $274,800

About The Position

Microsoft is seeking a Principal Product Manager, Application Intelligence, to define an emerging product area that helps customers understand how their business processes operate, identify opportunities for improvement, and achieve measurable business outcomes through people, applications, and AI agents. The role works across Business Applications, Work IQ, enterprise data and connectors, process intelligence, and agentic experiences. The successful candidate will work backwards from customers to shape the product strategy, experiences, and platform capabilities that make Application Intelligence foundational to how people and AI agents interact with business systems. The role involves defining strategy and roadmaps, translating ambiguous customer needs into validated opportunities, and owning requirements and end-to-end journeys from discovery and analysis through recommendations and agentic actions. The Principal Product Manager partners with engineering, design, research, customers, senior leaders, and partner teams to validate experiences, make platform decisions, coordinate dependencies, and communicate evidence, tradeoffs, and outcomes. The position is classified as Product Management IC5. The listed U.S. base pay range is $142,800–$274,800 per year, with a separate range of $188,000–$304,200 for the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area. The role requires passing a Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience in product, service, or program management or software development, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of experience in product, service, or program management or software development, or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience improving product metrics for a product, feature, or experience in a market, such as growing a customer base, expanding customer usage, or avoiding customer churn.
  • 6+ years of experience disrupting a market for a product, feature, or experience, such as through competitive disruption or replacing an established competing product.
  • 4+ years of experience taking a product, feature, or experience to market, including design, addressing product-market fit, and launch.
  • Experience defining a new product area from ambiguous customer needs, testing hypotheses through prototypes or pilots, and using evidence to scale, redirect, or stop an investment.
  • Experience defining and launching complex enterprise software, platform, or AI-powered products.
  • Experience working with enterprise applications, business processes, data platforms, developer platforms, or related technologies.
  • Experience defining products that span data, applications, workflows, and AI or agent experiences.
  • Experience sufficient to partner closely with engineering on enterprise data, integration, extensibility, AI agents, and application architecture.
  • Technical depth sufficient to make difficult product and platform-boundary decisions in ambiguous environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and distributed teams across organizational boundaries.
  • Strong customer instincts and experience using qualitative and quantitative evidence to make product investment and prioritization decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Define the product strategy and roadmap for emerging Application Intelligence experiences and capabilities.
  • Work backwards from customers to identify high-value business problems and translate ambiguous needs into validated product opportunities.
  • Own requirements, user journeys, and end-to-end experiences spanning application and process discovery, analysis, insights, recommendations, and agentic actions.
  • Partner with engineering, design, and research to rapidly prototype and validate new experiences with customers before scaling investment.
  • Define success metrics, experimentation plans, and proof points to determine whether to scale, iterate, or stop an investment.
  • Determine how business data, application context, process signals, enterprise context, and agent capabilities come together across Microsoft products and platforms.
  • Make product and platform boundary decisions that create reusable intelligence capabilities rather than one-off solutions.
  • Influence roadmap and dependencies across Business Applications, Work IQ, Agent 365, and partner teams to deliver coherent end-to-end customer outcomes.
  • Develop a point of view on how Application Intelligence changes business applications and enables AI agents to understand and improve organizational operations.
  • Communicate product strategy, customer evidence, tradeoffs, and results to senior leadership, customers, and partners.
