Principal Product Manager, Education

brightwheel
•$174,000 - $258,000

About The Position

Brightwheel is hiring an AI-native product leader to build its education business into a second core business. The role will take the business from early traction toward product-market fit across segments and then scale, creating products such as curriculum, child-growth assessments, and professional development for educators. The opportunity includes serving states and districts as well as small programs, and developing business models ranging from digital subscriptions to multi-year contracts. The Principal Product Manager will own the education business end to end, combining customer discovery, hands-on product building, and validation of the customer value, business model, and economics behind each product bet. The role works directly with the CEO and executive team, sets the vision, drives outcomes visible at Board level, and recruits and develops the team as successful bets emerge. The ideal candidate is a customer-focused, multidisciplinary builder who uses AI and modern tools to prototype and ship, is comfortable making decisions amid ambiguity, and has experience building new products or businesses.

Requirements

  • Record of building products customers love, with strong product judgment and customer empathy.
  • Experience taking a product or business from 0 to 1 or 1 to 10, ideally achieving real traction and serving as a founder or early builder.
  • Experience owning the business, including customer value, pricing, and economics.
  • Applied use of AI and modern tooling to build and ship faster and work across disciplines.
  • Strong communication and executive presence, including ability to set a vision, align executives and the Board, and inspire a team.
  • Ability to work across product, design, engineering, and data.
  • Ability to make confident decisions in ambiguous situations and adapt when data becomes available.
  • Ability to think about the whole business, from customer problem through revenue, and communicate a clear vision.

Nice To Haves

  • Founder or early-builder experience, ideally having taken a new product or business to real traction.

Responsibilities

  • Own the education business from achieving product-market fit in new segments through scaling.
  • Discover the needs of teachers, directors, parents, and district buyers; build initial product versions and put them in front of users quickly.
  • Validate the customer value, business model, and economics behind product and business bets.
  • Build hands-on using AI and modern tooling to prototype, learn, and increase the effectiveness of a small, focused team.
  • Work directly with the CEO and executive team to set the vision and drive outcomes visible at the Board level.
  • Recruit, inspire, and grow the team around successful business bets.
