Principal Platform Engineer - Integrations

Baker Tilly•San Jose, CA

About The Position

Baker Tilly is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to lead the design, development, and operation of the firm’s AI agent integration framework within the APG platform. The role establishes scalable, secure, standardized ways to connect third-party AI agents to the firm’s technology ecosystem while preserving the firm’s control of enterprise data, decision history, and learning. It defines and enforces vendor integration standards, builds event-driven interfaces and data ingestion pipelines, and supports interoperability, portability, and production readiness across AI-enabled solutions. As a foundational member of the Platform & Production Engineering team, the engineer partners with architecture, engineering, data platform, procurement, legal, and vendor teams to turn integration requirements into production-ready solutions. The role also advances shared platform services and the firm’s AI platform strategy, coordinating with globally distributed engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in platform engineering, systems integration, or related software engineering disciplines, including development and support of production-scale enterprise solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, and operating event-driven integration architectures, including publish/subscribe messaging, webhooks, API platforms, and distributed systems.
  • Strong hands-on programming experience with Python and/or TypeScript, including recent development, testing, and maintenance of production-quality code.
  • Experience developing vendor-facing technical specifications, establishing integration standards, and holding external engineering teams accountable for requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Deep understanding of API design, versioning, contract testing, integration patterns, and agent interoperability technologies, including Model Context Protocol (MCP).
  • Experience implementing identity management, authentication, authorization, entitlements, and permissible-use controls in enterprise integration environments.
  • Experience building telemetry, event-processing, and data-ingestion pipelines that integrate with modern enterprise data platforms, including Databricks or comparable lakehouse technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of observability, monitoring, logging, distributed tracing, incident management, and rollback strategies for production systems and third-party integrations.
  • Experience designing integration architectures that support vendor portability, system interoperability, data ownership, and replacement of third-party technology components.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to diagnose complex integration issues and implement scalable, reliable solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with enterprise architects, product and engineering leaders, procurement teams, and external technology vendors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation, explaining complex engineering concepts, and influencing technical decisions across stakeholder groups.
  • Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams and coordinating development across functions and geographic locations.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality technical solutions in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Proficiency in leveraging AI-assisted and agentic development tools to improve engineering productivity, accelerate development, and enhance solution quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain scalable integration capabilities, including event-driven architectures, publish/subscribe interfaces, webhooks, APIs, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) endpoints.
  • Define and maintain vendor-facing technical specifications, integration requirements, and acceptance criteria for interoperability, security, portability, and performance.
  • Partner with procurement, legal, and architecture teams to translate technical integration standards into measurable contractual commitments covering data ownership, decision traces, export rights, and vendor portability.
  • Build and operate pipelines that capture AI agent decision traces, lineage, activity data, and telemetry, and integrate that information into the firm’s data platform and Intelligence Layer.
  • Implement identity management, entitlements, permissible-use controls, and secure integration boundaries to protect enterprise information and prevent unauthorized system interactions.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Architect and platform engineering leadership to develop shared platform services, including gateways, runtime capabilities, and reusable infrastructure.
  • Establish observability, monitoring, testing, and rollback capabilities to support reliable, secure, effective production operation of integrated AI agents.
  • Coordinate with external engineering teams on integration development, technical validation, troubleshooting, and acceptance testing, including assurance-related AI agent solutions.
  • Partner with platform and MLOps engineers in India and cross-functional teams to align technical standards, coordinate development, and support consistent engineering and operations practices.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned to advance the firm’s AI platform strategy and business priorities.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive compensation and benefits package for eligible employees.
