About The Position

Virtasant is building a senior team for a large enterprise program in healthcare operations. The program uses ontology and knowledge-graph design to help executives make operational decisions, act on them, and measure the results. The Principal Ontology Architect will work directly with senior client stakeholders, demonstrate experience designing and delivering ontologies, and lead ontology and semantic design. The engagement starts immediately and is part-time for the first few weeks, with an expected move to full time on a multi-year contractor engagement. The role is for a US-based person with US work authorization and includes occasional travel within the US.

Requirements

  • Have designed and shipped production ontologies that drove real decisions, rather than only taxonomies or metadata catalogs.
  • Be able to discuss two or three delivered ontologies, including the business problem, model, what went wrong, and what could be done differently.
  • Use a business-first modeling approach based on executive questions, metrics, and workshops with domain experts.
  • Have hands-on graph modeling experience with a property-graph or RDF database, and understand when a graph is appropriate.
  • Have healthcare operations experience, such as workforce, scheduling, or clinical operations.
  • Have presented to C-level stakeholders and be comfortable being challenged live.
  • Be available immediately.
  • Be based in the US and authorized to work in the US.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Palantir Foundry Ontology, including objects, links, and actions.
  • Ontology governance experience, including versioning, change control, stable identifiers, and shared core models with per-client extensions.
  • Decision-intelligence modeling experience, including KPI trees, root-cause analysis, recommendations, and closed-loop measurement of predicted versus actual outcomes.
  • Experience grounding AI assistants or agents in an ontology or knowledge graph.
  • Experience with rules engines alongside an ontology.
  • Experience with modern cloud data platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead ontology and semantic design for an enterprise healthcare operations program.
  • Work directly with senior client stakeholders and present experience with ontologies designed and delivered.
  • Start modeling from executive questions and metrics, facilitate workshops with domain experts, and translate findings into a technical model.
  • Use hands-on graph modeling and make the case for when a graph database is appropriate.
