About The Position

Our client, a multidisciplinary engineering firm, is seeking a healthcare-focused principal for its growing Houston team. This mechanical seller/doer will partner with the leadership team to deliver and grow the Houston healthcare business and will be a key member of the Texas leadership team. The role involves leading and mentoring multidisciplinary teams and delivering forward-thinking, sustainable healthcare designs that address clients’ challenges. The position is hybrid, with three days per week in the Houston office and two days working from home. Relocation support may be provided; candidates should have previous local experience. The permanent position offers a Houston base salary hiring range of $240,000–$290,000 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skill level.

Requirements

At least 15 years of professional experience.
Experience designing hospitals from concept design through construction administration and systems commissioning.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
Experience leading project teams as a project manager or project director on medium- to large-scale projects.
Proven leadership in mechanical design and a client-focused, collaborative approach.
Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas.

Responsibilities

Lead multidisciplinary teams in the design and execution of healthcare projects, aligning work with client goals, regulatory standards, and contractual obligations.
Build and maintain healthcare client relationships to encourage repeat business and identify new opportunities.
Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to deliver work on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
Manage financial performance, implement risk controls, and ensure compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.
Supervise and mentor engineering teams, supporting professional growth through development opportunities and performance evaluations.
Present complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences in engaging and innovative ways.
Promote sustainable design practices that support improved health outcomes and are grounded in current scientific research.
Serve as Lead Engineer or Engineer of Record on key projects, ensuring technical excellence and accountability.
Partner with the leadership team to deliver and grow the Houston healthcare business.
