Principal / Lead Product Manager, Carrier Connectivity

Applied Systems Canada•,

About The Position

The Principal / Lead Product Manager will own carrier connectivity for Applied’s Connected Trading team, turning customer signals, market context, and technical possibilities into decisions and solutions. The role focuses on solving complex connectivity problems in commercial insurance placement and helping move placement—from request for coverage to bind—into one connected workflow. The position involves diagnosing and delivering technically complex, cross-team solutions in production; making decisions that balance carrier constraints, system architecture, and agency workflow needs; and partnering with engineers on solution design, including data contracts, authentication, error handling, and failure modes. The role coordinates delivery across the Epic, Cytora, and Ivans product and engineering teams, establishes priorities and sequencing, and remains accountable for outcomes. The Product Manager will define and monitor connectivity measures such as delivery success, quote return rate and latency, normalization accuracy, and carrier onboarding time. They will partner with value product managers and carrier partners, set clear expectations, resolve competing needs, and communicate problems, tradeoffs, and progress to product and business leadership. This is a remote role in the United States or Canada. Candidates in Canada must reside and work in one of the listed provinces.

Requirements

  • A record of owning solutions to complex technical problems through production, rather than only writing requirements and handing them off.
  • At least 10 years of product management experience delivering outcomes for a technical product or product suite.
  • Experience defining requirements for a platform, integration, or API product and working with the engineering teams that build and run it.
  • Working knowledge of REST APIs, authentication and authorization, webhooks and callbacks, data mapping, and integration failure modes.
  • Ability to read an API specification and discuss design choices with engineers.
  • Experience delivering through teams the candidate does not manage, where engineering is in a different organization and priorities compete.
  • Experience addressing problems at real scale where solutions span multiple systems and directly affect customers or partners.
  • Strong analytical skills and exceptional written communication, including technical specifications and executive summaries.
  • Curiosity to investigate root causes and act without needing a fully defined problem to be handed over.

Nice To Haves

  • Insurance experience, especially carrier systems, agency-carrier data exchange, or standards such as ACORD.
  • Experience with data normalization, ingestion pipelines, or document and email processing, including AI-assisted extraction or classification of unstructured data.
  • Experience building multi-sided marketplace or network products where each new participant increases value for others.
  • Experience mentoring or guiding other product managers.

Responsibilities

  • Own carrier connectivity problems surfaced by Connected Trading use cases, from initial diagnosis through a working production solution.
  • Form and make decisions on ambiguous, technically complex, cross-team problems, balancing carrier constraints, system architecture, and agency workflow needs.
  • Identify and address issues limiting agency-side use cases without waiting for problems to be assigned.
  • Design solutions alongside engineers as a technical peer, including data contracts, authentication, error handling, and failure modes, and make tradeoffs between approaches explicit.
  • Coordinate delivery across the Epic, Cytora, and Ivans product and engineering teams by agreeing priorities, sequencing, and capacity, and remain accountable until solutions work in production.
  • Define and track connectivity measures, including delivery success, quote return rate and latency, normalization accuracy, carrier onboarding time, and the share of marketed submissions reaching connected carriers.
  • Partner with value product managers who depend on carrier connectivity and with carrier partners.
  • Set expectations for connectivity, resolve competing needs, and communicate problems, tradeoffs, and progress to product and business leadership.
