Principal / Lead Product Manager, Carrier Connectivity

Applied Systems, Inc.•,
•$135,000 - $210,000•Remote

About The Position

The Principal / Lead Product Manager will own carrier connectivity for the Connected Trading team at Applied. The role turns customer signals, market context, and technical possibilities into product decisions, addressing complex connectivity challenges in commercial insurance placement and helping connect the process from request for coverage through bind. The position owns connectivity problems from diagnosis through production, makes decisions on ambiguous cross-team technical issues, and partners with engineers on solution design, including data contracts, authentication, error handling, and failure modes. It coordinates delivery across the Epic, Cytora, and Ivans product and engineering teams, and measures connectivity performance through delivery success, quote return rate and latency, normalization accuracy, carrier onboarding time, and the proportion of marketed submissions reaching connected carriers. The Product Manager also works with value product managers and carrier partners to set expectations, address competing needs, and communicate issues, tradeoffs, and progress to product and business leadership. The role is remote and open to candidates in the United States or eligible Canadian provinces.

Requirements

  • A record of owning solutions to complex technical problems through production, rather than only writing requirements and handing them off.
  • At least 10 years of product management experience delivering outcomes for a technical product or product suite.
  • Experience defining requirements for a platform, integration, or API product and working with the engineering teams that build and operate it.
  • Working knowledge of REST APIs, authentication and authorization, webhooks and callbacks, data mapping, and integration failure modes.
  • Ability to read API specifications and discuss design choices with engineers.
  • Experience delivering through teams the candidate does not manage, including situations where engineering is in a different organization and priorities compete.
  • Experience addressing problems of significant scale where solutions span multiple systems and directly affect customers or partners.
  • Strong analytical skills and exceptional written communication, including technical specifications and executive summaries.
  • Curiosity and initiative to investigate root causes and act without needing a fully formed problem handed to them.

Nice To Haves

  • Insurance experience, especially carrier systems, agency-carrier data exchange, or standards such as ACORD.
  • Experience with data normalization, ingestion pipelines, or document and email processing, including AI-assisted extraction or classification of unstructured data.
  • Experience building multi-sided marketplace or network products where each new participant increases value for others.
  • Experience mentoring or guiding other product managers.

Responsibilities

  • Own carrier connectivity problems surfaced by Connected Trading use cases, from initial diagnosis through a working production solution.
  • Form views and make decisions on ambiguous, technically complex, cross-team problems, balancing carrier constraints, system architecture, and agency workflow needs.
  • Identify and fix limitations affecting agency-side use cases without waiting to be assigned a finished problem.
  • Design solutions alongside engineers as a technical peer, covering data contracts, authentication, error handling, failure modes, and explicit tradeoffs between approaches.
  • Coordinate delivery across Epic, Cytora, and Ivans product and engineering teams by agreeing on priorities, sequencing, and capacity, and remaining accountable until solutions work in production.
  • Define and track connectivity measures, including delivery success, quote return rate and latency, normalization accuracy, carrier onboarding time, and the share of marketed submissions reaching connected carriers.
  • Partner with value product managers and carrier partners to set clear expectations for connectivity, resolve competing needs, and communicate problems, tradeoffs, and progress to product and business leadership.
