[SY 27-28] Principal-In-Residence

KIPP•Chicago, IL
•Onsite

About The Position

The Principal in Residence (PIR) program is a two-year residency designed to prepare aspiring leaders to become successor leaders at existing KIPP Chicago schools. This program combines on-the-job learning, professional development, and mentorship to equip participants with the skills and competencies needed to lead high-performing schools. PIRs are full-time members of their school's leadership team, gaining daily practical experience in school leadership. They are committed to contributing to the success of their placement school and KIPP Chicago's mission of creating joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare students for future success and contribute to a more just world. As a PIR, leaders will act as a member of the school leadership team, gradually taking on more responsibilities, similar to an assistant principal role, focusing on coaching teachers and contributing to the school's vision. Towards the end of the residency, the role shifts to mirror a school leader with direct ownership of school-level responsibilities. PIRs will actively develop leadership skills through a development plan, benefit from mentorship by an experienced school leader, and receive ongoing one-on-one coaching from the regional Director of Leadership Development. Regular readiness checkpoints will assess progress, and formal professional development will align with Chicago's leadership competencies. PIRs will also engage in learning alongside a cohort of peers.
