About The Position

This position is for a Special Education Teacher at ORANGE GROVE ELEMENTARY for the 27-28 School Year. The role involves planning, preparing, and delivering specialized instruction for students with disabilities, developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and collaborating with various stakeholders to support student success. The teacher will create a safe and inclusive learning environment, monitor student progress, maintain records, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. This is a 190-day, exempt position reporting to the Building Principal or other appropriate School Administrator.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Certification as required by the state of South Carolina in Special Education Learning Disabilities or multicategorical.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and other applicable special education laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement IEPs and specialized instructional programs.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and data-management skills.
  • Other professional and personal qualifications deemed necessary to fulfill assigned responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver specialized instruction designed to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments to identify student strengths, needs, and progress toward IEP goals.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications are implemented.
  • Establish and communicate clear instructional objectives aligned to grade-level standards and individualized student goals.
  • Create and maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide differentiated instruction using a variety of evidence-based teaching strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and collect data to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs and interventions.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and complete special education records, including IEPs, progress reports, and evaluation documentation.
  • Participate in eligibility, IEP, manifestation determination, and other special education meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with parents, guardians, administrators, and related service providers to support student success.
  • Ensure all special education services are delivered in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
  • Utilize instructional technology and adaptive resources to support student learning and accessibility.
  • Provide direct instruction in academic, behavioral, social, communication, and functional skills as appropriate.
  • Develop and implement behavior intervention plans when necessary.
  • Monitor and support student achievement in both general education and special education settings.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Supervise and collaborate with instructional assistants, paraprofessionals, and support staff as assigned.
  • Participate in school, department, district meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Stay current on best practices, legal requirements, and developments in special education.
  • Cooperate in planning, implementing, and evaluating the school's educational program.
  • Foster positive and effective communication with parents and guardians.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
