Principal FPGA Engineer

RTX•Huntsville, AL
•Onsite

About The Position

The Effector Guidance Electronics (EGE) department develops electronics for weapon system products and is responsible for the architecture, design, and documentation of deliverable FPGA embedded processing at Raytheon. Its products operate in environments ranging from ground-based systems to exoatmospheric environments and space. The Principal FPGA Engineer develops FPGA designs for major vendors and device families, including AMD, Altera, and Microchip. Applications include gigabit serial interfaces, RF and EO digital signal processing, controls, data links, embedded processing, and processor interfaces. The role supports design from requirements definition through production release, integration, and test, and includes architecture, modeling, algorithm partitioning, coding, simulation, place and route, verification, documentation, and configuration management. The engineer collaborates with systems, hardware, and software engineers and program management, and may lead FPGA-based system architecture and designs. The position is 100% onsite in Huntsville, Alabama, and qualifies for relocation assistance. An active and existing DoD Secret clearance is required after day one; U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance are required. The salary range is $107,500–$204,500. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits and incentive compensation, subject to business-unit and collective-bargaining eligibility and other factors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), typically, and at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience architecting FPGA-based systems and determining parts and interfaces.
  • At least 8 years of experience in at least 6 of the following areas: digital design and HDL coding for configurable logic devices; delivering FPGA solutions to system-level applications; experience with FPGA devices and associated tools from one or more of Altera, Lattice, Microchip, or AMD; integration and debug of electronics using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, or similar equipment; FPGA timing constraints and timing closure; digital simulation tools such as Questa or RivieraPro; industry-standard interfaces and protocols such as AXI, PCIe, SPI, or I2C; Python or C programming; and working with intellectual property (IP) cores.
  • U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance; an active and existing DoD Secret clearance is required after day one.
