Principal FPGA Design Engineer

RTX•Fort Wayne, IN
•$107,500 - $204,500•Onsite

About The Position

Raytheon’s Multi-Product Power & Digital department designs FPGAs, circuit cards, and electronics subassemblies for missiles and effectors, radars, and electronic warfare systems. The team supports products throughout their lifecycle, from architecture and design through production and sustainment. The Principal FPGA Engineer develops FPGA solutions for sensor and effector products, working with multidisciplinary teams to define requirements, develop architectures, perform detailed design and simulation, and complete integration and verification. The engineer documents designs using configuration management tools and provides engineering support across the product lifecycle. This is an onsite position in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and requires U.S. citizenship and an active, existing DoD Secret clearance after day one.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a STEM degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in FPGA/ASIC design using VHDL and/or Verilog, or FPGA/ASIC verification using SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with AMD (Xilinx), Altera, and/or Microchip (Microsemi) devices and tools such as AMD Vivado, Altera Quartus Prime Pro, or Libero.
  • Hands-on experience integrating and debugging FPGA/ASIC designs in a lab environment.
  • Experience with timing closure, clock-domain crossing and reset-domain crossing analysis, and constraint development.
  • Experience with source code management, design reviews, and code release in a team development environment.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance; an active, existing DoD Secret clearance is required after day one.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM major; a suitable degree may count as two years of work experience.
  • FPGA/ASIC design experience in radar processing techniques.
  • Image-processing experience for visual and infrared sensors.
  • Embedded systems design using ARM, MicroBlaze, or NIOS processors.
  • Experience with gigabit serial interfaces and multigigabit transceivers.
  • Constrained-random verification in UVM using SystemVerilog.
  • Verification using emulation platforms such as Veloce.
  • Experience with High Level Synthesis.
  • Experience with vector processors and/or GPUs.
  • Experience using AI to improve FPGA workflows, including verification automation, log triage, or regression analytics.
  • AI/ML inference on FPGA, including Vitis AI, FINN, or custom accelerators.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead successful teams.
  • Experience managing technical, cost, and schedule risks and opportunities.
  • Experience with project management tools such as Earned Value and/or Agile Execution.
  • Experience communicating and documenting technical topics and presenting to customers and management.
  • Experience leading a program transition from development to production.
  • Proposal development experience.
  • Experience generating intellectual property through patents and publications.
  • Demonstrated mentorship of junior engineers.
