Principal Data Center Electrical Engineer

Oracle•United States,
•$102,300 - $209,500

About The Position

Support the design, deployment, maintenance, and operation of mission-critical electrical infrastructure across Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) data centers. The role provides electrical engineering expertise, oversees tenant improvements and white space fit-outs, and partners with internal teams and colocation providers to maintain service availability, improve operational efficiency, and ensure compliance with engineering and safety standards. The position supports critical-environment maintenance, incident management, site selection and builds, data center operations, engineering design and governance, and training. It reviews proposed sites and fit-out designs, validates electrical plans and failover compliance, develops digitized electrical models and distribution templates for rack-placement planning, and supports supplier-led fit-outs and field engineering teams. The role also contributes to incident investigations, technical reports, commissioning, operational improvements, and training. Travel is typically approximately 25%.

  • Manage critical-environment maintenance support to defined SLAs, helping maintain service uptime and promptly address faults.
  • Apply practical knowledge of engineering systems, diagnostics, repairs, Oracle procedures, and industry standards to resolve routine issues.
  • Suggest system-level enhancements and contribute to testing components or deployment action plans.
  • Manage incidents affecting OCI services, address root causes, conduct root-cause analyses, document lessons learned, and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Collaborate with design, construction, commissioning, facility engineering, data center operations, health and safety, and compliance teams to integrate electrical distribution systems into existing data centers.
  • Drive operational optimization and efficiency improvements while following safe working practices and promoting safety, security, and compliance.
  • Review sites and proposed fit-out designs, assess site suitability, and prepare technical reports to document findings and recommendations.
  • Review electrical plans for accuracy and ensure failover designs meet compliance requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews and oversee commissioning activities to verify alignment with engineering standards and project requirements.
  • Review mechanical simulations, including CFD analyses, to assess airflow and thermal performance and identify design adjustments.
  • Support and validate on-site data center operations related to electrical infrastructure and serve as the electrical subject matter expert for mission-critical systems, operations, and performance.
  • Partner with colocation providers’ engineering teams to ensure systems are appropriately designed, specified, and installed.
  • Review documentation, participate in commissioning activities and design summits, and represent engineering in change advisory board meetings for critical changes.
  • Oversee tenant-improvement work and support supplier-led white space fit-outs in new data center spaces.
  • Develop digitized electrical models and distribution templates to support rack-placement planning.
  • Ensure documentation is captured, stored, referenced, and shared with field engineering and operations teams.
  • Support engineering investigations into large-scale events and provide support to field engineering teams.
  • Coordinate internal and external project team members and contribute engineering insight to data center projects and design initiatives.
  • Support contract administration, including generation and review of contracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and related documents.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and maintenance of policies and procedures.
