About the position
Taskrabbit is seeking a Principal Architect to drive significant architectural change for their platform. This role involves collaborating with engineering teams to implement the company's technology strategy, documenting architectural patterns, and creating proofs of concept. The Principal Architect will also contribute to infrastructure decisions and inform roadmaps and priorities. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in software system design and architecture, particularly in cloud native architectures and microservices/event-driven architecture. Strong collaboration skills, excellent communication abilities, and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience are required.
Responsibilities
- Partner with existing architect, staff engineers, and engineering leaders to bring the 3-year technology strategy to life
- Help document architectural patterns and principles
- Create proofs of concept and reference implementations to facilitate informed decision making
- Consider how infrastructure choices impact overall system design
- Inform roadmaps, priorities, and decisions across various audiences
- Design and architect highly available, customer-facing systems across web and native mobile
- Have practical experience with cloud native architectures, preferably with AWS
- Design and implement Microservices and/or Event Driven Architecture
- Work with software systems across multiple languages
- Collaborate with teams and prioritize rapid iteration
- Understand tradeoffs between maintainability, complexity, and speed to market
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Have a minimum Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
Requirements
- 8+ years of software system design and architecture for highly available, customer facing systems across both web and native mobile
- Strong practical experience with cloud native architectures (ideally with AWS)
- Successful Microservices and/or Event Driven Architecture design and implementations
- Experience with software systems across multiple languages (e.g. Ruby, Go, Java, etc.)
- An extremely collaborative style which focuses on the wisdom of teams over individuals, with a strong emphasis on rapid iteration
- Understand tradeoffs between maintainability, complexity, and speed to market
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum Bachelor’s in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
