Director of Engineering

Taskrabbit is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the core, foundations engineering strategy and drive the evolution of the platform to meet marketplace and partnership needs. This role involves attracting and retaining high-caliber engineers, collaborating with cross-functional teams, defining long-term platform engineering strategy, and executing on that strategy. The Director will be responsible for managing multiple core foundation areas, scaling teams, and ensuring organizational effectiveness. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in product building, managing engineering teams, and leading infrastructure and developer experience initiatives.

• Own and execute on the Foundational Engineering Roadmap at Taskrabbit, leading teams of engineers to build the product capabilities required to enable all business partners to successfully deliver a delightful experience for their customers.
• Partner with Product, Data, and Business Development to build the Taskrabbit Foundations strategy and define the necessary high-fidelity user stories to deliver high-impact business outcomes.
• Collaborate with Engineering leaders and teams on architecture, system design, and technical dependencies.
• Manage multiple core foundation areas (Infrastructure, Developer Experience, Core Services, etc.), scale teams, and ensure your organization is effective, healthy, and set up for success by establishing clear and measurable goals.
• Communicate roadmaps, priorities, and decisions across a wide spectrum of audiences from engineers, EDDP (Engineering, Data, Design and Product) partners, peers across the business, and executive leadership.
• Build and develop a team of engineers with experience building processes, infrastructure, and systems for scale.
• Have 10+ years experience building products for scale.
• Have a proven track record managing effective engineering teams; 4+ years managing software teams; 2+ years managing managers.
• Have experience operating in a Scrum/Agile environment.
• Have experience building core capabilities used by one or more internal teams.
• Have experience leading infrastructure teams, specifically AWS infrastructure.
• Have experience leading Developer Experience teams obsessing the development lifecycle (CI/CD, infrastructure as code, etc.).
• Be comfortable with React and Rails application development.
• Understand tradeoffs between maintainability, complexity, and speed to market.
• Have a minimum Bachelor’s in Computer Science or equivalent industry.
