About The Position

RTX BBN Technologies is seeking an experienced RF and antenna design engineer to join its team in Arlington, Virginia, or Columbia, Maryland. The role works with scientists to implement RF systems in support of advanced research, from the digital domain to the air interface. Systems may include antennas, matching networks, feedlines, filters, low-noise and power amplifiers, signal distribution, and switching, with applications spanning laboratory, field-test, and autonomous environments. Frequencies range from HF to millimeter-wave, and power levels from milliwatts to megawatts. The engineer will develop low-risk, repeatable solutions with adequate margins to support scientific work. Projects may use custom, purpose-built hardware or commercial off-the-shelf components. The position is primarily onsite and requires an active, existing DoD TS/SCI clearance after the first day. U.S. citizenship is required.

Requirements

  • A STEM degree and typically at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in antenna system design, modeling, prototyping, and deployment.
  • Experience with RF front-end design, including LNAs, PAs, gain control, filters, and RF distribution.
  • Experience with system design, cascade analysis, link budgets, and control interfaces.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Active and existing DoD TS/SCI clearance required after day 1.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience applying advanced methods, theories, and R&D techniques to solve difficult problems.
  • Ability to proactively tackle research challenges with minimal supervision and periodic check-ins with team leads.
  • Experience documenting designs and scientific findings and presenting to government customers.
  • Hands-on experience building RF systems and antennas, performing verification testing, and fielding hardware.
  • Experience supporting proposals with cost estimates, BOMs, technical descriptions, schedules, and labor estimates.
  • Willingness to travel overnight as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Design, model, prototype, and deploy antenna systems.
  • Design RF front ends, including low-noise amplifiers, power amplifiers, gain control, filters, and RF distribution.
  • Develop RF system designs, cascade analyses, link budgets, and control interfaces.
  • Work with scientists to implement RF systems for research projects.
  • Build RF systems and antennas, conduct verification testing, and field hardware.
  • Document designs and scientific findings and present them to government customers as appropriate.
  • Support proposals by preparing cost estimates, bills of materials, technical descriptions, schedules, and labor estimates.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • 401(k) match.
  • Flexible spending accounts.
  • Flexible work schedules.
  • Employee assistance program.
  • Employee Scholar Program and educational assistance.
  • Parental leave, including paternal leave.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
  • Achievement awards and career development and recognition programs.
  • Child and adult backup care.
