About The Position

Dauphin County Drug & Alcohol Services is hiring a full-time, day-shift Prevention Specialist to provide direct prevention services to the Dauphin County community and school districts, as mandated by the six federal strategies. The specialist serves as a drug and alcohol liaison to student assistance teams in all 11 school districts. Education and prevention activities take place throughout Dauphin County during traditional and non-traditional hours.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in health education, education, the social or behavioral sciences, or a related field, and one year of experience in drug and alcohol prevention work; or an equivalent combination of experience and training, together with a bachelor’s degree in health education, education, or the social or behavioral sciences.
• At the time of hire, a valid driver’s license and positive driving record, favorable criminal background check, child abuse and FBI clearances, and favorable references are required.
• Provide proof of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license within 60 days of hire. An alternative form of identification is accepted if the applicant is not eligible for a Pennsylvania driver’s license under 67 PA. Code § 83 and driving is not an essential function of the position.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct prevention services to the community and school districts in Dauphin County, as mandated by the six federal strategies.
• Serve as a drug and alcohol liaison to student assistance teams in all 11 school districts.
• Attend student assistance team core meetings.
• Perform assessments.
• Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other school events related to student assistance programs.
• Conduct education and prevention activities during traditional and non-traditional hours.
