About The Position

The Preservation Imaging Technician Intern exists to assist the Church History Department in its purpose to help God’s children make and keep sacred covenants. The incumbent performs digital imaging services of collection materials for research, archival, exhibition, publication, online access, and preservation, including photography and post production. Supports digitization initiatives, executes production-level digital capture using a variety of hardware, software, and methodologies through routine and repetitive tasks. This is an individual contributor position. This is a full-time 12 month internship.

Requirements

  • Paid Interns are qualified while enrolled in an educational institution and for one year following graduation.
  • Must sign a Paid Internship Engagement Letter.
  • Able to work for long periods of time in stationary position using computers and equipment
  • Basic knowledge of digital capture, digital media, and image manipulation software, camera/scanning equipment
  • Basic knowledge of lighting equipment and light-modifying techniques
  • Highly collaborative and productive in a team and independent workflow environment
  • Ability to articulate ideas clearly (i.e., creative concepts and technical processes)
  • Basic knowledge of color theory, digital imaging science , FADGI standards, etc.
  • Ability to problem-solve and adapt creatively to produce best possible images
  • Ability to lift, handle, and move art objects and fragile materials weighing up to 25 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Scan and/or photograph a variety of materials (i.e., photographs, books, maps, microfilm) using several types of scanning/photographic equipment (i.e., flatbed scanners, film scanners, overhead cameras , large-format scanners).
  • Apply knowledge of digital capture to document collection objects.
  • Perform post-processing tasks of moderate complexity, file preparation, color correction, masking, layering, cropping, and quality control.
  • Arrange layout of materials, lighting, and camera equipment to produce high-quality images.
  • Prepare and organize digital files for ingest into digital repositories or deliver to other destinations utilizing file naming and tracking protocols.
  • Perform physical assessments, movement tracking, and management of collection materials and keep accurate technical and workflow documentation.
  • Perform post-processing of image files to specifications, organize completed files in appropriate directories.
  • Stay current regarding emerging trends, equipment, and standards.
