About The Position

Apple’s Graphics, Games, and Machine Learning team provides the compute and graphics software foundation across products including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, Vision Pro, and Apple Watch. The Pre-silicon Compute Frameworks team designs and develops APIs across Metal and Metal compute frameworks for features in future Apple Silicon GPUs. As a senior engineer on the team, you will influence and lead new features through the next-generation GPU hardware roadmap. You will contribute to API design, development, and performance analysis, and develop compute and machine learning use cases that showcase new features. You will partner with leaders across Apple’s software and hardware organizations to propose, develop, and evaluate hardware features for new silicon generations, from emulation through silicon.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, PhD, or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field, with 5 years of experience.
  • Strong grasp of and practical experience with at least one GPU compute API, such as Metal, CUDA, or OpenCL.
  • Good understanding of machine learning fundamentals and familiarity with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or CoreML.
  • Knowledge of operating systems, computer architecture, and CPU/GPU programming.
  • Strong background in C/C++ programming.
  • Experience collaborating on large cross-functional projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Apple framework and API design patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or CoreML.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver software representing Apple’s roadmap for compute and machine learning technologies during hardware development.
  • Design APIs that enable developers to use new hardware features as simply as possible.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure the software and hardware roadmap includes state-of-the-art features and performance.
  • Contribute to bringing up and verifying new chips and products using new GPUs.
  • Develop compute and machine learning use cases to showcase new features.
  • Contribute to API design, development, and performance analysis across Metal and Metal compute frameworks.
