Pre-Silicon Power Management Engineer

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc•Austin, TX

About The Position

As a key contributor to AMD’s strategic direction and technical growth, this role supports validation of silicon designs and implementation of Shift Left initiative technologies. The engineer will foster technical innovation by enabling new SOC and Enterprise Emulation technologies, improving pre-silicon IP and system validation coverage, and cultivating software enablement. The position plans and implements shift-left work for upcoming products and coordinates closely with program-specific technical leads, including the product Lead System Engineer and product Silicon Evaluation Lead. The role focuses on pre-silicon emulation debug and the development and validation of complex boot flows, connections, and peripherals in SOC designs. Success requires an in-depth understanding of microprocessor product development and the ability to solve multiple concurrent complex problems on aggressive timelines, collaborate and communicate effectively, work across teams, and deliver projects to completion.

Requirements

  • In-depth understanding of microprocessor product development.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work well across teams and deliver projects to completion.
  • Knowledge of computer system architecture and microprocessor development.
  • Demonstrated success in product verification, emulation, and post-silicon validation.
  • Ability to structure and execute complex analysis, derive insights, and communicate findings and recommendations to senior management and AMD customers.
  • Ability to build relationships and drive effective decision-making across multiple functions and organizational levels.
  • Highly organized, able to prioritize and manage multiple work streams to tight deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering, or a related degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Focused experience in emulation and other shift-left technologies and processes.
  • Hands-on experience validating low-power states such as S0i3 in pre-silicon emulation environments, including debugging entry/exit flows and dependencies across firmware and hardware components.
  • Knowledge of Verilog, C, C++, assembly, TCL/TK, Python, and/or other scripting languages.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on improving product time-to-market, hardware quality, firmware and software quality, and lowering development costs.
  • Work with pre-silicon tools and concepts, including emulation, FPGA, software models, N-1 silicon usage, and pre-to-post-silicon initiatives.
  • Contribute to debugging high-priority issues and executing critical projects.
  • Drive new capabilities and technologies to enhance system validation quality and coverage before silicon arrival.
  • Lead the definition of shift-left strategies for new products with customers.
  • Define key metrics to facilitate and track improvements.
  • Collaborate with other AMD business units to share learning and best practices.
  • Plan and implement shift-left work for upcoming products, coordinating with program-specific technical leads.
  • Debug pre-silicon emulation and develop and validate complex boot flows, connections, and peripherals in SOC designs.
