Silicon Firmware Engineer

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc•Austin, TX

About The Position

AMD is seeking a Firmware Engineer with a strong background in low-level firmware and SoC power management to join its Power Management Firmware (PMFW) team. The engineer will design, develop, integrate, and debug firmware responsible for power management and platform control across AMD SoCs. The work spans pre-silicon development and validation through silicon bring-up, production readiness, and customer enablement. The engineer will collaborate with firmware architects, silicon design, power and performance teams, BIOS, validation, and other firmware teams to develop robust platform firmware and resolve complex issues. The role calls for strong debugging and problem-solving skills, independent ownership of technical problems from investigation through resolution, effective cross-team collaboration, and technical leadership in firmware development and platform bring-up.

Requirements

  • Strong embedded firmware development experience with C and C++.
  • Experience with SoC power management, boot, reset, initialization, or other low-level platform firmware.
  • Strong understanding of SoC architecture and hardware-firmware interfaces.
  • Experience with pre-silicon development and post-silicon bring-up and debug.
  • Strong debugging and root cause analysis skills across firmware and hardware boundaries.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own complex firmware features and technical problems.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI-assisted development and debugging tools to improve firmware quality, debug efficiency, and engineering productivity.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate, and debug platform management and power management firmware for AMD SoCs.
  • Lead firmware feature development from pre-silicon through silicon bring-up, validation, and production.
  • Debug complex firmware and hardware interactions and drive issues through root cause and resolution.
  • Collaborate with architecture, silicon, BIOS, validation, and power teams to define and deliver platform features.
  • Provide technical leadership, design and code reviews, and mentorship to other firmware engineers.
