Pre-Education Counselor/Surgery Scheduler

Commonwealth Eye Surgery•Lexington, KY
•$18 - $25

About The Position

This role combines Pre-Education Counselor and Surgery Scheduler responsibilities. The Pre-Education Counselor contacts patients before cataract surgery evaluations to introduce Commonwealth Eye Surgery, explain what to expect, and provide an overview of cataract surgery, refractive cataract surgery (RCS/RCS+), and vision-correction options. The role introduces potential out-of-pocket expenses for elective upgrades without guaranteeing insurance coverage or final pricing, and gathers patients’ questions, lifestyle preferences, visual goals, and concerns to prepare them for discussions with their provider. The Surgery Scheduler coordinates the patient’s surgical journey after evaluation and surgical recommendation. This includes scheduling procedures and pre- and post-operative appointments, reviewing surgical recommendations and financial obligations, and ensuring surgical plans, consents, medications, and documentation are complete and accurate. The role coordinates with Billing, clinical staff, and referring providers to support surgical readiness; provides instructions and protocol-based medication guidance; and maintains timely communication and follow-up with patients. Both functions require exceptional patient service, accurate and consistent communication, careful documentation, timely follow-through, collaboration across teams, appropriate escalation of clinical questions, and support for patient understanding, departmental productivity, satisfaction, and operational efficiency. Patients should be supported in informed decision-making without pressure to choose elective upgrades.
