About The Position

The Power Plant Technician (PPT) - Advanced Operator plays a crucial role in the operation, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of generating plant steam and auxiliary equipment. This position involves monitoring systems, performing diagnostics, and collaborating with the Control Room Operator to address equipment start and stop times, abnormal conditions, and corrective actions. With responsibilities ranging from system maintenance and emergency response to administrative support, this role is essential to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.
  • Prior experience in power plant operations or a similar role at an operating or generating plant, preferably with direct experience in power generation operations, including startup, shutdown, and routine system inspections.
  • Achieve a passing score on the Power Plant Technician tests.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot generating plant steam and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ability to perform operational diagnostic and analytical functions on systems, equipment, and components.
  • Adherence to all safety and environmental rules and regulations, with a demonstrated commitment to emergency response activities as required.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in using plant computer systems for monitoring work backlog, inputting work order data, and performing data collection.
  • Good oral and written communication skills required, including effective communication with the Control Room Operator and other team members.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.

  • Associate degree in a related science or equivalent technical degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors systems and equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Communicates with the Control Room Operator about equipment start and stop times, abnormal conditions, corrective actions, equipment checks, and conditions found.
  • Operates systems, equipment, and components during start-up, run, shutdown, and standby mode following standard operating procedures.
  • Performs operational diagnostic and analytical functions on systems, equipment, and components.
  • Isolates and restores systems, equipment, and components strictly adhering to the work scope and applicable procedures and practices.
  • Performs administrative functions in support of the work unit, such as timekeeping, materials support, construction monitoring, scheduling, and quality control/quality assurance.
  • Uses plant computer systems to monitor work backlog and input work order data.
  • Performs data collection and maintains proper logs.
  • Adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Performs emergency response activities as required.
  • Performs general housekeeping functions as necessary.
  • Operates company vehicles and equipment.
  • Completes other tasks as requested by the Operations Manager.
