About The Position

The Portfolio Manager underwrites credit exposure for less complex relationships and actively manages a portfolio of Dealer Services relationships. The role includes day-to-day client interaction, portfolio risk management, and adherence to regulatory and compliance guidelines. A key focus is early identification of emerging credit concerns, sector trends, funding pressures, governance issues, liquidity challenges, and changes in donor, grant, reimbursement, or program revenue patterns. The position leads commercial underwriting for prospects and clients, including underwriting, structuring, and documenting transactions. It analyzes company performance, industry and competitive dynamics, and macroeconomic impacts on creditworthiness; evaluates financial statements, projections, and business plans; identifies and mitigates risks; and recommends and models loan structures. The Portfolio Manager is accountable for risk evaluation and associated regulatory compliance. The role manages an assigned portfolio by monitoring performance and trends, developing credit solutions, identifying and remediating issues, maintaining risk-rating integrity, conducting annual reviews, spreading financial statements, overseeing compliance and regulatory reviews, and managing amendments and waivers. It also builds client relationships through direct calling efforts and works with internal product partners to develop solutions consistent with client needs and the Bank’s risk criteria. The Portfolio Manager partners with Investment Banking peers to deliver complex financing solutions, maintains knowledge of banking solutions and market trends, and shares industry insights across the Portfolio Management organization. The role manages deal-team tasks using assigned Associates and Analysts, and mentors and coaches junior Portfolio Managers, Associates, and Analysts, including participating in annual performance reviews for Analysts and Associates. There are no direct reports. The role provides independent risk recommendations, with final approval by the ultimate risk approval officer, and may handle complex relationships including leveraged, PEG-affiliated, sensitive, or legally difficult clients.
