About The Position

Samaritan Daytop Village is hiring a Porter to perform daily custodial work at a designated facility in Midtown Manhattan. The role helps maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for clients and staff. Duties include cleaning common areas, restrooms, offices, entrances, and indoor and outdoor spaces; performing floor care; disinfecting high-touch surfaces; removing trash and debris; and clearing snow from the building’s front exterior when necessary. The Porter must use and maintain cleaning equipment and supplies properly, follow safety procedures, and be willing to respond to maintenance and flood emergencies as needed. This is a full-time, non-exempt role scheduled Friday through Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The hourly rate is $23.65, annualized at 35 hours per week to $43,049. The position includes a full benefits package.

Requirements

At least six months of experience in custodial or related work.
Familiarity with cleaning procedures, methods, and equipment.
Ability to follow safety protocols when handling cleaning supplies and tools.
Understanding of chemical safety and ability to follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
A strong sense of responsibility and pride in creating clean, safe, and comfortable spaces.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with clear and respectful communication.
Openness to learning new skills, receiving feedback, and adapting to changing facility needs.
Basic computer skills for communicating with supervisors or headquarters, such as submitting reports or receiving updates.

Nice To Haves

Experience with floor care, including maintaining vinyl flooring with appropriate machines and chemicals to preserve finishes.
Knowledge of operating stripping and buffing machines.

Responsibilities

Maintain a clean and orderly environment throughout the facility, including common areas, restrooms, offices, and entrances.
Perform floor care, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and spot-cleaning; use stripping and buffing machines and take care to preserve vinyl flooring finishes.
Identify and address cleaning needs to maintain sanitation and safety standards.
Clean and disinfect bathrooms and high-touch surfaces according to established hygiene protocols.
Remove trash and debris from indoor and outdoor areas and clear snow from the front exterior of the building when necessary.
Use cleaning equipment and supplies properly and keep equipment in good working condition.
Follow safety guidelines, including using protective gear and approved cleaning agents.
Respond to maintenance and flood emergencies as needed.
