About The Position

Samaritan Daytop Village operates more than 60 facilities across NYC, Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley, providing human services to more than 38,000 New Yorkers annually. The Porter performs daily cleaning at a designated facility to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for clients and staff. This full-time, non-exempt role is located in Midtown, Manhattan, and is scheduled Friday through Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The hourly rate is $23.65, annualized at $43,049 based on 35 hours per week.

Requirements

At least six months of experience in custodial or related work.
Familiarity with cleaning procedures, methods, and equipment.
Knowledge of operating stripping and buffing machines.
Ability to follow safety protocols when handling cleaning supplies and tools.
Understanding of chemical safety and ability to follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
A strong sense of responsibility and pride in creating clean, safe, and comfortable spaces.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with clear and respectful communication.
Openness to learning new skills, receiving feedback, and adapting to evolving facility needs.
Basic computer skills for communicating with supervisors or headquarters, such as submitting reports or receiving updates.

Nice To Haves

Experience with floor care, including maintaining vinyl flooring with appropriate machines and chemicals to preserve finishes.

Responsibilities

Maintain a clean and orderly facility, including common areas, restrooms, offices, and entrances.
Perform floor care, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and spot-cleaning, using side-by-side stripping and high-speed buffing machines while preserving vinyl flooring finishes.
Identify and address cleaning needs to uphold sanitation and safety standards.
Clean and disinfect bathrooms and high-touch surfaces according to established hygiene protocols.
Remove trash and debris from indoor and outdoor areas, and clear snow from the building’s front exterior when necessary.
Use cleaning equipment and supplies properly and keep them in good working condition.
Follow safety guidelines, including using protective gear and approved cleaning agents.
Respond to maintenance and flood emergencies as needed.
