Western Washington University's Political Science Department maintains a vacancy pool for qualified candidates interested in temporary, part-time teaching positions. Applications are accepted continuously in anticipation of possible openings during the academic year. Positions may become available at any time and are typically filled quarterly. The department expects faculty to be effective, current in their discipline, and committed to teaching. Instructors engage students actively through discussion, writing, and analysis; set high standards for course content; provide feedback on coursework and examinations; and hold regularly scheduled office hours in accordance with department policy. Instructors must have students complete standard University course evaluations, or other forms approved by the provost, and make the evaluations available to department chairs and faculty for annual review. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Political Science Department support the University's commitment to academic excellence and inclusive achievement. The department has 14 full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty members and approximately 340 majors and minors. Its work encompasses American politics, comparative politics, international relations, public policy, and political theory, with cross-cultural and intersectional knowledge incorporated into course offerings. Applicants must comply with the University's immunization policy, including providing proof of Rubeola measles immunity within 60 days of hire. New employees must also provide employment eligibility verification before beginning work. New hires and rehires are subject to a thorough background check, including a sexual misconduct background check. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
