About The Position

Under general supervision, provides various staff support services to the Town Police Department. The primary duties and responsibilities include administering the ARS 28-3511 program, performing data entry, answering phones, conducting ACJIS and NCIC/ACJIS inquiries, providing assistance to police officers with accident investigations and traffic control documentation, taking reports of non-urgent incidents, maintaining Records Department functions, assisting with evidence/property custody, providing assistance to Department staff, performing traffic control, searching same-sex prisoners, monitoring prisoners via video, assisting during search warrants and photo lineups, swearing out complaints at court, checking paper citations for accuracy, transporting citations to court, providing backup support to animal control, and working the front counter. The role also involves maintaining the integrity, professionalism, values, and goals of the Town by ensuring rules and regulations are followed, and accountability and public trust are preserved. It also supports the relationship between the Town and its constituents through courteous and cooperative behavior and by promoting the Town’s goals and priorities.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of staff support experience in law enforcement or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Required to pass a criminal background check and polygraph exam.
  • ACJIS certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Possession of a valid State of Arizona driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of Police Department administrative processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Town, county, state, and federal laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of criminal justice and court systems, procedures, and protocols.
  • Knowledge of civil court procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and practices of evidence collection and preservation.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement principles, practices, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of records management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of modern office management principles, practices, and methods.
  • Knowledge of uses and applications of personal computers and various software applications.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with Town staff, Council members, various external organizations and individuals, and the general public.
  • Ability to type 30 WPM or more.
  • Ability to develop and organize public functions (i.e., Block Watch, School Programs, etc.).
  • Ability to speak in public forums.
  • Ability to work effectively with other law enforcement agencies and organizations.
  • Ability to utilize the ACJIS for criminal and motor vehicle checks.
  • Ability to effectively apply mediation techniques and methods.
  • Ability to administer laws and regulations, make decisions, maintain composure, and work effectively under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to evaluate facts and evidence, drawing logical conclusions and making proper recommendations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software.

Responsibilities

  • Administers the ARS 28-3511 program, including attaching driver's licenses and registration to tow slips, determining if a hold is justified, entering information into the VIN program, conducting hearings, collecting fees, determining vehicle eligibility for early release, completing release forms, and updating the VIN program.
  • Performs data entry in records, answers phones, speaks to citizens, performs ACJIS inquiries and entries, and conducts NCIC/ACJIS queries for criminal background checks.
  • Provides police officers with assistance regarding accident investigations and traffic control documentation.
  • Takes reports of incidents of a non-urgent nature, including delayed burglary, theft, animal problems, and lost and found property.
  • Maintains all Records Department functions, including data entry of reports, processing record requests, assisting citizens via phone or in-person, and assisting other law enforcement agencies.
  • Assists and serves as backup Evidence/Property Custodian, which includes logging incoming items, storing property/evidence, making property/evidence available for trial, and disposing of or returning property/evidence to the rightful owner.
  • Provides assistance to Department staff, performs traffic control, searches same-sex prisoners, monitors prisoners via video, assists during search warrants and photo lineups, and swears out complaints at court.
  • Checks paper citations for accuracy and transports them to the court.
  • Provides backup support to animal control as needed.
  • Works the front counter and answers phones.
  • Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values, and goals of the Town by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved.
  • Supports the relationship between the Town and the constituent population by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and Town staff.
  • Enthusiastically promotes the Town’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.
