About The Position

The Department of Public Safety at the University of Southern Maine is hiring a Police Specialist. This role involves general policing, safety, and emergency response functions, with a strong commitment to community policing and problem-solving. The position is 40 hours per week with a schedule determined by seniority and shift bid, and overtime opportunities are available. Requirements

  • Certified law enforcement officer
  • At least three years of law enforcement experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Class C Maine driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties similar to a Police Officer, including law enforcement, community policing, solving complex community/campus problems, and security service delivery.
  • Lead the department's investigatory processes.
  • Provide subject matter expertise.
