About The Position

Provides leadership, supervises, plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the activities of assigned squad, unit, or work shift in general law enforcement, investigations, technical or support operations.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree; or its equivalency of a minimum of 60 semester hours
  • At least two (2) consecutive years of service within the last 5 (five) years with the Springfield Police Department as a Police Corporal or higher rank.
  • OR At least eight (8) consecutive years of service as a Police Officer, after successful completion of the candidate’s most recent field training program with the Springfield Police Department.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License
  • Must be a Missouri state certified police officer.
  • Proof of United States Citizenship/Authorization to Work in the United States as established by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986 is a condition of employment.
  • Pre-employment drug testing is required.

Nice To Haves

  • No City Employee "shall be deemed eligible for promotional examination whose last service rating was not satisfactory."

Benefits

  • $3,258.40 - $4,475.20 is a complete bi-weekly salary range effective July 12, 2026, Collective Bargaining Agreement.
